Remediation and Restoration  of Douglas Park

As we know, because of high levels of contaminants detected at Douglas Park, the Miami- Dade Environmental Department (DERM) closed the park more than a year ago. The City of Miami is working on a plan for the remediation and restoration of Douglas Park.

At the community meeting of December 9, the City explained that Douglas Park was built on top of a landfill that has more than 14’ deep layers of solid waste. Although the City does not have a final plan for the restoration of Douglas Park, the remediation plan will consist on adding two feet of uncontaminated soil on approximately 90 % of the park. The projected excavation will be 10 % of the project for construction of the new service center. The remediation plan must comply with what is called  RBCA minimum standards and  must be approved by DERM.
